Konnichiwa!!!
Zach S. in Dallas, here. Just thought I'd post to the blog before I leave for the National Poetry Slam being held in Albuquerque next week. Above you'll see pictures of me and the team, as well as the mascot (Beelzebub Buttercup). If you watch Def Poetry on HBO, you might recognize Joaquin Zihuatanejo (far left) and Rock Baby (2nd from right). We'll be competing against 74 other poetry slam teams from all across the nation, Canada, and France. Dallas' team will be doing their preliminary bouts at a Flamenco studio on Wednesday, and a rock club on Thursday. You can check our progress, and get more details on the event at http://www.nps2005.org/. If there are any alumni out in Albuquerque, or if anyone feels like a road trip, feel free to come out, I'd love to see some friendly faces in the crowd. Doing this team slam, I can't help but remember what Billy and Colleen always said to us--Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art. It's a valuable lesson, and keeping that in mind makes you a better performer. Billy, I hope your show went well, sorry I didn't get a chance to see it. Kasi and I are setting up our guest/announcement list for our wedding in May, and if anyone would like an announcement, please e-mail me @ zschrotter@verizon.net. If there's anyone who thinks they can make it into town May 7th, let me know, and I'll send you an invite. Peace n' love to y'all.
Z.
